about

THIS IS A GAPLESS ALBUM. FOR BEST LISTENING EXPERIENCE PLEASE DOWNLOAD HIGH QUALITY (NOT MP3) AUDIO.

This is the first in a 3 part series of records I made during the first half of 2020. In February I began diving into some new computer composition ideas, and manipulating recordings from a duo recording session I had just done with Patrick Breiner. I thought I'd have fun playing around with these ideas during a few slow winter weeks.

As it turned out, the spring was so slow that the world seemed to nearly stand still. Like most musicians, all of my fancy plans were canceled, leaving me with nothing but time. This lonely computer music concept that began as a curiosity in the winter became my main escape, and on some days even an obsession by April.

By May I had made 30 or more tracks/experiments, over 3 hours of sounds, and I had no idea what to do with them. A quarantine phone call with co-conspirator Nathaniel Morgan left me excited by the simple scandalous idea of folding it all on top of itself. So I began at first haphazardly and eventually painstakingly to layer, collage, sculpt, mix and remix all these materials into a nearly 90 minute piece, which I eventually cut into thirds. I plan to release all 3 segments here on bandcamp over the next couple of months.

Thank you to Patrick Breiner, Tony Malaby, Marc Hannaford, Brandon Lopez and Sean Ali for allowing me to reappropriate their masterful improvisations, and to Kyle Wilson for the amazing artwork.
